Time to Make a Plan for 2021

If we are facing in the right direction, all we have to do is keep on walking

Buddist Probverb

We are so close to the end of the year, a year which has been so big because of the challenges faced due to Covid. For many of us, we started 2020 with big dreams for what we wanted to achieve, only to find us putting them aside to deal with the stress from the changes, and restrictions we had to make in order to adapt to a new way of living. Life took on a new normal, and it took all of our energy, to cope and to support our loved ones around us.

The year seemed to move so slowly, but finally we are here ready to celebrate Christmas and to transition into a new year.  One in which we are all hoping to get off onto a positive start, to get back on track and start to focus on what we are wanting to achieve in life.

Now in this last week before the new year, it is a good opportunity to take the time to self-reflect and focus on the areas in our life that we are wanting to improve and change. This can be different for everyone, ranging from health, fitness, well-being, finances, work, giving service, travel and adventures.

Your goals are yours alone and can be whatever you want them to be….they are the first step to turning the invisible into the visible….

Creating a Plan of Action

Once you have your goal or goals for 2021 it is time set a  clear plan of action to commit to. Having a plan of attack will help guide you, motivate, keep you focused and committed as you travel the road to making your goal a reality.

  The Goal:

Your plan should firstly outline your goal and the reason it is important you

Make your goals smart goals, make them:

Specific – down to the detail

Measurable – how much, how far

Attractive – is this something you want to do? Or feel a little excited about

Realistic – do you feel at least 7out of 10 in confidence that you can achieve this goal

Time framed- how often and when

  Values

Take the time to understand your values and make sure that your goals reflect your core values, that way you will be more likely to commit and achieve them.

  Obstacles

Write down what obstacles that you feel you may encounter along the way. Once you know what these obstacles are, write them down and work out a strategy on how you will deal with them, that way you are prepared and will not feel overwhelmed.

  Steps

Start to write down the steps that you will take to achieve your goal. Set a time frame and reward for each one. Having a clear plan can make it so much easier to begin your goal and it can also keep you motivated and build your confidence as you achieve your steps and move closer to the end goal.

         Commitment Statement

Write yourself a commitment statement and sign it, treat it like binding contract that you are going to commit to and follow through until the end.

  Review

Each month take time to sit down to review and revise and your action plan - reflect on the month. Ask yourself what worked? What didn’t work? Are there any new obstacles to face in the next month? Write a new set of steps to keep you building momentum and moving you forward to the end goal.

Take this opportunity with the new year to take a step forward in your life, you won’t regret it, at the end of your day you will only regret the things you did not try or do…
